FAQs
Q: How do I change the volume?
A: To change the volume, press the button 1 time for each step (2dB) to increase the volume from factory setting level up to maximum volume (4 steps = + 8dB). With each press you will hear a beep. When max. volume is reached, 2 beeps (medium, high) are heard. After reaching the maximum volume, the next press changes the volume to the minimum volume value (-8dB from factory setting).Further presses increase the volume again by 2dB steps. It is a loop principle. When volume by default (factory level: 0) is reached, a longer beep is heard.
Q: How can I set up the volume through Roger Touchscreen Mic or inspiro (EasyGain)?
A: The volume can also be changed using the EasyGain function in Roger Touchscreen Mic or inspiro. Both EasyGain and the Volume Control button change the output level the same way. The selected Volume Control (VC) level stays until it is changed again through the VC button or through the EasyGain feature in the Roger Touchscreen Mic or inspiro. Also when switched on/off, a battery change, or an automatic restart of the device will not change the volume level. Volume output out of the box (factory setting) is 68 dBA free field equivalent.
Q: Why do open domes need to be used?
A: Roger Focus is fitted to children or people with normal hearing or minimal hearing losses, and therefore we recommend the use of open domes for natural sound. Closed domes are not advised for Roger Focus due to occlusion, but can be used without danger for children or adults.
Q: What is the maximum output value?
A: The maximum output value with SlimTubes is 80dBA free field equivalent, which is compliant with the maximum 90dBA for long time average as specified with the EN50332-1 standard (maximum sound pressure for earphones associated with portable equipment).
Q: Can a hook be used instead of the SlimTube?
A: Mechanically, the Roger Focus housing allows the use of an ear hook instead of the SlimTube. The effect of switching to an earhook on the acoustics is to shift the resonance frequency around 1kHz, and add gain (+8dBspl @1kHz). The maximum output value is 87dBA free field equivalent, which is compliant with the maximum 90dBA for long time average as specified with the EN50332-1 standard (maximum sound pressure for earphones associated with portable equipment). This means there is no risk for the use of Roger Focus with a hook instead of the SlimTube. If a Roger Focus is used with a hook, the volume can be reduced with the Volume Control in order to have the same conditions as the use with a SlimTube.
